Xcite + Pack

Ableton Live Lite 7 forms the foundation of this collection, providing the ideal platform to create, produce and perfom. Novation’s classic bass synth, ‘Bass Station’ enables you to create bass and 303-styled patches. Alongside these comes 'Mike the Drummer'; a collection of 572 inspiring and original live drum loops ranging from 79 to 191 bpm, with loop lengths ranging from 1 beat to 4 bars, as well as extended freestyle solo sections. Individual drum hits and REX files are also available. These drum loops are however, just the beginning. An entire gigabyte of royalty-free samples, exclusively compiled by LoopMasters, provide a selection of loops and samples large enough to satisfy the appetite of even the most demanding artist.

The Xcite+ Pack bundle is Windows XP, 32 bit Vista, Mac OS X and Intel Mac compatible.

Ableton Live Lite

Ableton Live Lite delivers much of the functionality of Ableton Live—the revolutionary, multi-award winning music production solution that allows you to spontaneously compose, record, remix, improvise and edit your musical ideas in a seamless audio/MIDI environment. Live brings your acoustic, electronic and virtual instruments—as well as your digital audio recordings and MIDI sequences—together in a single interface with unparalleled ease of use.

Live’s multi-award winning elastic audio sequencing lets you record, import, arrange and process multiple audio clips and loops into complete songs regardless of their pitch or tempo—all in real time while the music continues. You can even change tempo and pitch of audio independently after the fact—and clip envelopes create endless loop variations. Of course, you can also integrate linear tape-style recording along with your loops.

New additions to M-Audio's version of Live Lite include full ReWire Support, MIDI Remote Control, Mackie Control Support, Complex Warp Mode, Clip Freeze, Plug-in Delay Compensation, Arrangement Locators, Live Clip Format, Searchable Browser, New Preset Management and Effect/Device groups, Hi-definition recording (up to 32-bit/192 kHz), and new effects such as Beat Repeat and Saturator.

Ableton’s unique approach to music production extends to a new paradigm in MIDI sequencing and manipulation as well, complete with exclusive virtual instruments. There’s also VST and Audio Unit support and a host of effects you can’t find anywhere else. As simple to use as it is powerful, Live is a completely unique musical tool that blurs the distinction between stage and studio.

Where the full version of Ableton Live gives you all of these capabilities across an unlimited number of audio and MIDI tracks, Ableton Live Lite 6 gives you four audio tracks and four MIDI tracks. Live Lite 6 will not include compressed audio support. Given Live’s unique power and efficiency—including resampling—that’s a lot of production capability right out of the box. It’s so intuitive and inspiring that you’ll be making new music immediately. And if you decide to unleash the full power of Ableton Live, your experience and files are completely transportable. Either way, Live lets you focus on what really matters: your music.

Features

The Focusrite Saffire 6 USB is a 2 In / 4 Out USB audio interface. It uses the same award-winning Focusrite mic-pres as the rest of the Saffire range. This makes it the best value, and best sounding interface in its class. Its output configuration is also ideal for laptop DJs.

It is ultra-reliable and easy to set up, providing you with the simplest route to record into, and play back from your computer. It has lower latency than any of its rivals, and professional analogue to digital converters ensure you get the best possible signal into your recording software.

With 2 mic-pres, multiple outputs and MIDI I/O, the Saffire 6 USB can be at the centre of your home recording set-up. However, its reliability means that you can take it out and record on location with confidence. The 2 in 4 out configuration is perfect for laptop DJs who need to be able to cue up material, or send two different signals to either side of a DJ mixer.

This is our most affordable interface to date, and it comes with Ableton Live Lite 7, Novation's Bass Station synthesizer and over a gigabyte of samples. In addition to all this, you get the Focusrite FX Suite, which includes a compressor, gate, reverb and EQ to upgrade your standard AU/VST effects.

The Saffire 6 USB is certainly the easiest way of getting the classic Focusrite mic-pre into your recording set-up.

  1. Not heavy duty... but it'll do on a budget. Review by Carl Pandatankenson
    Rating

I like the Saffire series of interfaces. While this is certainly the budget model and not the powerhouse some of it's big brothers are.... at the price it is a solid little unit. I wouldn't necessarily handle mixing for a record I spent money processing every other part of, but for the hobbyist, home recordist, software recording junkie looking for a low cost upgrade to their sound, this is a great card. Catpants, or whatever his name is, was a little hard on the other reviewer, who may have had legitimate problems with windows 7 (imagine that), but as a Mac user, I have had a great experience with this card, which I bought for what is basically my game mac. I've also used it with Ableton on the road a few times and it sounds just fine. It is what it is... at the price point it's hard to beat. (Posted on 3/21/13)

  2. A Great Interface at a Low Price Review by Mr. Catpants
    Rating

Naturally, this isn't going to compete with super expensive converters, but getting Focusrite Pres, a low noise unit and all in half a rack of space at this price is a pretty great deal. i got mine because I needed something I could use when I was visiting my girlfriend and this has been the perfect solution- though it would be perfect for anyone routing signals into their DAW from a mixer, or a budding producer just looking to have a bit better sound for their plugins and the option to route audio in to the computer.
Don't listen to the haters, Focusrite makes solid gear- they probably just don't know how to use the internet to download updates and drivers... because... apparently, there's a lot of people out there who can't read... (Posted on 3/17/13)

  3. Hard time with Win7 Review by Johnny5
    Rating

I bought this to go with my Win7 laptop. It had a hard time - it would install the drivers, but it would not show up in the sound outputs and the ASIO driver couldn't see anything. I got it to work exactly once, adn then never again. But if I plugged it into my old Power PC G4 PowerMac, and installed the driver, it works GREAT with Logic 7.1. It's just a driver issue on Windows. Works great on the mac though. Sounds good, but I couldn't keep it because of the Windows problem. (Posted on 8/11/11)
