Description Computer-powered drum sounds for sequencing, and tracking.

The USB Pro Drum Kit is designed for USB/MIDI performance with your Mac, PC, or other MIDI device. The USB Pro Drum Kit features dual-zone RealHead drum pads, genuine alloy SURGE Cymbals, and a compact, studio-friendly StealthRack drum rack. Harness the powerful processor in your computer to create incomparably realistic electronic drum tracks.
USB Pro Drum Kit is the world's first drum set designed to use your Mac or PC as the sound module. Your computer has more processing power than any hardware drum module, and USB Pro Drum Kit makes harnessing that power easy. The true touch of real, tunable, mylar drum heads, combined with the natural feel of brass-alloy SURGE Cymbals creates an acoustic-feeling, great-sounding drumming experience.

USB/MIDI FOR HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE

Just plug the kit's Trigger|iO interface into your Mac or PC's USB port, load up your sequencing, recording, or virtual instrument software, and you're ready to play. Because the USB Pro Drum Kit is MIDI compatible, you can track a performance, and then go back afterward and tweak your sounds. Try that with acoustic drums!

The USB Pro Drum Kit also opens up a new world of software including BFD, Toontrack, and Reason to drummers and producers looking for realistic drum performances.

ADVANCED DRUM PADS

The USB Pro Drum Kit's acoustic-feeling RealHead drum pads are built around 8 mylar drumheads and acoustic-dampening foam for quiet response. The snare and tom pads are dual-zone, enabling rimshot or rim-click sounds on the snare and additional sounds such as wind chimes, cymbals, gongs, and cowbells on the tom rims.

When they wear out, the drumheads can be replaced with any model you choose from any manufacturer. The heads are tunable with a standard drum key for adjustable tension and feel. The triple-flanged counterhoops are covered in removable, sound-reducing rubber sleeves, which further cut acoustic noise.

The USB Pro Drum Kit includes a self-standing RealHead Kick Pad with stand, to which any model of single or double-bass-drum pedal can be attached. The kick pad also features a tunable, 8 mylar playing surface.

CYMBALS WITH BUILT-IN TRIGGERS

The USB Pro Drum Kit comes with SURGE Cymbals, the only serious choice in cymbals for triggering electronics. The kit comes with a 12" SURGE Hi-Hat Cymbal, a 13" SURGE Crash Cymbal with choke, and a 16 SURGE dual-zone Ride Cymbal with choke. These alloy cymbals are coated with a clear sound-dampening layer so they feel like acoustic cymbals! The Crash and Ride cymbals feature large choke strips on the undersides for even more attention to accurate cymbal control. The Ride features dual-zone triggers for bell-clanging nuance. And the SURGE Hi-Hat Cymbal is continuously controllable using the included RealHat Pedal.

STEALTHRACK AND HARDWARE

The fully adjustable, compact StealthRack is built of 1 1/2-inch metal tubing, which is standard throughout the drum industry. It's easy to expand the USB Pro Drum Kit with any manufacturer's clamps and mounts. All necessary clamps, professional 1/4-inch cables, and mounting hardware are included. All clamps adjust with the included drum key. Pad-mounting L-arms feature non-round arms to eliminate slippage from playing. All of the hardware on the USB Pro Drum Kit is designed for sure grip and extensive adjustability.

No other drum set blends the realistic feel and touch with the sonic and creative flexibility of the USB Pro Drum Kit.

VIRTUAL DRUM STUDIO

And speaking of software, FXpansion BFD Lite comes right in the box with the kit. If you've never used BFD before, it will blow you away with its collection of impeccably recorded, real drum sounds, classic electronic sounds, and its easy-to-use recording studio control interface. No degree in audio engineering is required to quickly get up and running on BFD.

You get multiple articulations, velocity layers, and mic positions, which means almost anything you can do in a recording studio with miking, tuning, and processing you can do in BFD live, on the spot. BFD Lite also comes with grooves from the BFD Groove library so you can sequence and create loops for creative, layered performances. For more advanced engineers, BFD Lite works in VST and AU plugin formats, making it a perfect instrument for use with nearly any DAW.

Got a favorite brand of cymbal you like? What about toms? No problem, we've got you covered. BFD Lite lets you select from a list of authentic legendary drum and cymbals sounds. Customizing your kit has never been so easy. Point, click and play.

The set is pretty loud when you play it. Probably a con for most people looking for an electronic drumset? I disagree however, this set instead lets you play at a reasonable volume. Not so much that it can be played in an apartment, but good for a house. That can't quite be said about an acoustic. Also, you do get the feel of the acoustic set which is a plus. They were unfair by not giving the expansion package software with the set. (Posted on 3/11/13)

The last four or five years have seen an explosion in budget priced electronic percussion kits. Driven by the popularity of music gaming software like "Rock Band," musical instrument manufacturers are becoming more aware of a new kind of customer. A consumer who plays with music as much or more as playing music. The legions of virtual "rock stars" who want more than than a plastic controller to hit the stage with, are finding choices like never before. Entry level electronic drum kits with good sounds, USB connectivity and sturdy construction can be had for under $200.
This upsurge means pro kits from the big names have more bang for the buck than ever. All of which makes for happy pro musicians and studio owners who are now able to have custom connectivity with their existing setups and choose from a wide variety of controller options to meet their live, studio and rehearsal needs.
Alesis has pioneered the "prosumer" project studio market and in doing so has garnered acclaim from the professional community by providing musicians and studios with cutting edge products at unheard of prices.
The Alesis USB Pro Drum Kit is no exception. A first glance shows what looks like real cymbals and drum trigger pads with tunable heads. Well the brass-alloy cymbals are the pro quality "Surge" line of multi-trigger controllers available with bell, body, edge and choke playing zones. The USB pro kit comes with a 12" hi-hat single zone, 13" crash single zone and a 16" choke-able dual zone ride compliment. The (1)snare and (3)tom playing surfaces are all dual trigger controllers the kick is a single trigger pad with foot pedal mount. All of these are the superior "RealHead" drum pads and have Mylar heads for an extremely authentic playing experience.
My kit was purchased for studio use and comes with the Alesis "Trigger I/O" unit and provides customizable setups for trigger to MIDI conversion and has both a standard 5pin DIN and USB midi connection as standard outputs. There are no sounds on-board but with a studio full of virtual and rack mounted midi controllable instruments my options are vast. The software that comes with the kit is listed as BFD lite but mine came with Toontracks EzDrummer lite. I run both of these programs in their professional editions and have found something to like with each of them.
Setup of the kit was simple and took me a little over an hour to get up and running. I was surprised at how well the sounds responded to the default trigger settings. However adjusting the Trigger I/O dynamic controls for each of the individual playing surfaces makes it possible to best approximate the natural sonic response characteristics of the instrument sound being triggered. This process is accomplished by tweaking a variety of controls which let you choose from six velocity curves for matching amplitude response, and also include trigger gain, threshold, cross-talk, re-trigger and trigger type settings to optimize the control surfaces to your playing style. These settings balance the interrelation between the triggers to minimize cross-talk, false triggering and re-trigger timing. The attention spent on fine tuning these parameters makes the 21 customizable presets powerful one button configurations. A preset calls up the MIDI channel information, MIDI note selection and program changes for your kit selection.
The Alesis USB Pro Drum Kit is just right for my studio and UniqueSquared brought it in for a price that beat everybody.

The make offer button let me choose an even lower price.
