Bought this on recommendation of my brother-in-law as a Christmas gift for my budding muscian son. He plays guitar and mandolin. He loves this recorder! He can play his instruments and record them over each other. (Posted on 2/17/11)
Good product if you've got the time and patience to learn it Review by Rob

I was hoping this would be the all around little recorder to catch my thoughts as I come up with them with my instruments and voice for coming back to and refining, and I think it works well for that. I also was hoping I could use it for two track recording of gigs & rehearsals of all styles (I'm in several different groups of different styles (classic rock, swing band, bluegrass band, old western music and run musical events and festivals) and, for the most part, with a lot of tweaking, it'll do that too. My intention was to use this instead of hauling pro tools around with a computer and interface box.

It seems to get a lot more complicated (not that Pro Tolls is not) when you need to go to the different partitions, try & layer up different tracks on top of each other and it's just about as complicated and time consuming to bounce to disk as it is with a Pro Tools set up but the quality is not as good. Great concept but it sure could be made to be a lot more user friendly.

One thing I do to extend the 8 gig SD card without erasing tracks is to record mono (unless you need stereo or multiple tracks, it's find to get the drift) and use each of the four tracks on each partition as a separate song.... just don't try & enable multiple tracks at the same time or you'll get all the cuts at once.

The battery life is pretty miserable..... lost major portions at two gigs until I finally got the ac adapter. Recently, I've been using the voice memo recorder on my iphone and that works for collecting your thoughts and wow is it (Posted on 2/17/11)
