PreSonus DigiMax D8 - Multi-Channel Microphone Preamp with ADAT Output
- Product Review (submitted on April 24, 2013):
- I purchased my Digimax D8 about a year ago and have used it several times in my home studio to track drums. I added the Digimax D8 through ADAT to my Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56 interface (another excellent piece) in order to use 6 mics for my drum kit and still keep all 8 channels free on my interface. I hooked it up, set the interface as the master clock, set the Digimax to "External" clock source and it syncs up and works flawlessly! Always syncs immediately to 44.1KHz or 48KHz and plenty of gain. The eight 4 LED metering on the front is nice, there are pads on each channel and the phantom power is in groups of 2 preamps (1&2, 3&4, etc...) so you can use condensers and ribbons and dynamics all at the same time if you like. The preamps are dead quiet and transparent - what goes in, comes out. If you are looking for "character" or "warmth" go for a tube or other preamp built with those characteristics. This one is just clean and clear (which is what I wanted)! Unique Squared put together a great package with cables and I could not be happier with my purchase! Great unit!
